Dragon Con 2006 - 177 is the end of "Saturday." Still have Sunday and Monday to post-process and then submit. I've had some fractals rendered, but I want to submit all of these photos before I start submitting fractals again.

I haven't worked on photos beyond that point, as I've been busy editing Wikipedia. I'm the tsar of a WikiProject there, and the contributions I make actually have some lasting impact. Just sayin'.

I figured out the problem with the submission system-- one of the greasemonkey scripts I use was conflicting with their file upload thinger, so I blacklisted the DA submission page and it works. Yay!

I've discovered that I've got just enough time for one great hobby. The past few months, that's been Wikipedia. I'm taking some time out from that to work a little more on web design and photography.

Submission system

I've really got to get this off of my chest, because with all of this submitting, I've seen it about sixty times in the past week... and it's bugging the hell out of me.

things wrong with the new submission system
* It gives me an error when I upload an image: "Encountered an unexpected error" ... Why is it an unexpected error when I see it EVERY TIME I SUBMIT SOMETHING? You'd think they'd be expecting it by now. I must then refresh the page, and the image is (magically?) uploaded. I may then fill in the other details to submit my work.
* Uploads don't work at all in IE, and barely in firefox. What browser are you testing this shit on?
* It doesn't default to the largest size when submitting pictures. When I'm submitting a wallpaper at 1152x864 or a photo at 1000x1333, I'm not going to say, "show my viewers a crappy 400px thumbnail," I want them to see exactly what I submitted. The option is nice, but don't force it on me.

things right with the submission system
* Gives you an option to select a license
* Attempts to streamline the submission process
* Avoids the "do you want to submit a print of this" by having two buttons - "finish" and "make print."

Thank you for listening. Now go read my blog entry on useful Firefox extensions and greasemonkey scripts.

:bulletblue: I've been sitting the metric ass-ton of pictures I took at Dragon*Con 2006. I think I'm finally ready to get around to editing/submitting them.

:bulletblue: My website rocks. :) Speaking of things that rock, go listen to All of the Above. It's a pretty damn good song.

So, not all that much going on at the moment.

New Website

I've been busy lately creating my new website. The goal here is to make a website/blog for myself based on PHP, and then to post various written pieces on there about my favorite subjects. So, for example, I'll probably redo my "Rendering in Apophysis" tutorial and post it there. At the moment, I've got the layout set, most bugs fixed, and three articles up. Have a look!

http://disavian.no-ip.info/

There are a few things I want to do with that website (in terms of design) that I haven't gotten around to yet. Mainly, getting rid of the static flash, implementing an sql database and pulling the articles from there, and implementing a comment system (threaded would be nice...) so that people can discuss what I write.
